The federal government has a few mortgage programs in place that help financially struggling homeowners keep their homes. One of these programs is the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP), which is a part of the Making Home Affordable Program administered by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development in conjunction with the U.S. Treasury.
